Scuderi details confirmed
Rob Scuderi will get an average of $3.4 million over the next four years.
The paperwork is still being finalized, which is why there haven't been any official announcements. Still hoping to talk to Scuderi this afternoon.

Well that's a relief.
Rich, even though I was expecting more, I appreciate your hard work to keep us fans informed on everything.
Thank You.
Rich, do you know if Dean is talking with any other players right now ? I am assuming he would be trying to find a replacement for Caulder.....
Puckboy25,
People are saying Dean is talking to Alex Tanguay, I don't know how real this is, but it makes sense.. I can see him talking to guys like Travis Moen or Chad Larose..
Rich, have you heard anything?
AK,
Larose resigned in Carolina per twitter.com/nhlupdate
"Hurricanes re-sign Chad LaRose, Panthers re-sign Jordan Leopold."
AHHH weaaaak
I wanted him!
"AK47 said:
AHHH weaaaak
I wanted him!"
He's a RW anyways, we've got lots. Moen is a better fit.
OK AK47 after further research he's a LW/RW...but Moen's still a better fit
Lol, I know but let's see if Deano actually gets Moen..
Both Chad Larose and Moen would be nice. Larose- 2nd line left wing, Moen-Third line left wing
for any doubters about Scuderi, look at tsn.ca cooments abouyt hi signing
I like the signing of Scuderi, I feel it will leave the Kings with alot of options trade-wise. I was looking on TSN and read the article on how far apart the Blue Jackets and Rick Nash are. If the Blue Jackets feel as if there is no shot at getting him signed I wonder what they would want for him? The Kings do seem to have alot to offer these days. Personally I would take Nash over the guy in Atlanta. (I can't spell his name, maybe that's why I don't care for him.)
It seems like there is a lot of hate and vitriol directed towards Russian, Czech, Slovakian players and Kings staff around these parts. It kinda ruins the fun about discussing any aspect of the Kings or hockey in general. We don't always agree but, calling people names is so immature, I really don't know why Rich puts up with it. Can we all just keep it to make all of this fun and not personal to anyone on this blog or Kings staff. I am just as passionate about the Kings as everyone else on here but the name calling has to stop if you can't make a thoughtful comment then don't post it.
Solid signing. This gives the Kings time to develop Hickey, Voinov, Martinez & Teubert the right way, with lots of seasoning with Manchester.
jimmyzaflow, do you actually know anything about Scuderi? He's a very solid defensive d-man, that is a great penalty killer, and is willing to sacrifice his body to block shots. Quick and Ersberg and/or Bernier are gonna love this guy because of his shot blocking. To compare him to Preissing shows me you have absolutely no idea who Scuderi is.
Pens fans are sad to see him go.
Honestly. I can understand saying you don't like the Scuderi signing because it's your honest opinion but slamming the guy as a bad player just tells everyone that you don't watch much hockey (other than Kings' games). People keep talking like Scuderi had one good playoff but if you had watched any Pens games over the past 1 1/2 years you'd know he was a solid, solid DDDefenseman...exactly ONE of the things DL said he was looking for (the SECOND, a winger, will be along shortly). There are all kinds of articles on the guy if you look, but here's a starter:
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/cup/2009-06-04-penguins-scuderi_N.htm
And for those thinking they have more foresight than DL, here's a link to Qwisp's awesome breakdown of each NHL squad as they stand, cap-wise. Adding Scuderi only gives DL more depth, and more room to deal.
http://kwisp.wordpress.com/2009/07/02/whos-vulnerable-whos-not-a-k-a-sellers-and-buyers/
Again; you can say you think the money was too much, you can say that you really, really wanted a much shiner acquisition, but let's try and keep things rational and reasonable on here.

Spot on petey! It reminds me of the comments we were hearing on these boards when we acquired Greene! Edmonton fans voiced the same remourse we're hearing from Pittsburg today.
Yeah because the Penguins would've never have won the cup with out this guy! Who needs a skillful player who could score (because we were a high powered offense last year......... by the way, that's called sarcasm) when we could find a dime a dozen defense men. This pick up is sure going to make us a cup contender next year (sarcasm again). So in regards to me not knowing much, your totally right (sarcasm) and please excuse the fact that I'm calling out our GM who has a bad track record in free agency. Plain and simple, we have depth on defense and we sure as hell didn't need this guy. DUMBardi always talks about bring in young players and here we are bringing in 30 year old. Wow does it SUCK to be a Kings fan lately. DUMBardi is bad for the team. AEG is bad for the team and fans who support all these dumb moves are bad for the team!

You're right, jimmy. They wouldn't have.
I am glad my IQ is higher than 5 (sarcasm).
excellent, mature post jimmzaflow. Your boundless hockey acumen is only matched by your clever and original wordsmithing (sarcasm).
BTW, in addition to Lomardi talking about the youth, he also has, on multiple occasions, talked about the need to bring in another veteran D-man, because you see, while the Kings have defense depth, the young core that comprise all that depth lack defensive experience. But I bet you already knew that.
Well said Hockey Jesus.
I don't think it's any coincidence that the most abusive posts are also the least substantive.
Jimmy and anthony.
Would you have signed either of Gaborik or Havlat to the deals that they eventualy signed for? Who else would you have gone after and for what price?
And the Dumbardi crap is getting old. Like Anthony's been told before, get some new material.
"dime a dozen" defense man scuderi was one of only 12 defenceman selected to the U.S Olympic orientation camp.

This is why everyone outside of LA considers Kings fans a joke. I understand that the priority for most fans is to sign a playmaker, but come on? Do you really think your team is set on defense, and it's just a 30 goal scorer that's the missing link between you and the Cup? That's ridiculous. The Kings need depth in all areas of the game (I think including in the nets, but we'll see this season; that's a conversation for later...), and picking up Scuderi--who, by the way,is far from being "a dime a dozen" player--is a great move. With a team chock full of young talent, who better to bring in than someone who can shut down the opposing team's big guns and teach the young guys how to do it. Think the steadying influence of a guy who's been there before and won it isn't worth the pricetag itself? Ask the Pens about Chris Kunitz or Rus Fedotenko.
Jimmy, you're a joke.
Signed,
A Pens fan who's missing Scuderi big time already.
Pens fan -
It's possible to go to any blog for any of the thirty teams in the league and find several comments that prove the fans of team x are idiots/a**holes/whatever you wish them to be. It's called confirmation bias.
I agree with you that Scuderi is a great pick-up. And I do think he single-handedly preserved game 6 for the pens, which is this close to saying they wouldn't have won the cup without him. I forget which thread here it was in which I ran down his stats, blocked shots, penalties taken per sixty minutes, etc..
As far as the Kings go, yes, I think you're right that they need to improve in all areas. I wouldn't call it depth though. It's experience. We lack it. Scuderi has it. And we soak it up a bit more every day.
Quisp- I certainly didn't mean to imply that all Kings fans fall under the same umbrella; they don't. I've been following this blog for a while (I lived in LA for the past year and I needed a West Coast team to keep track of), and I'm amazed by the coverage from Rich, and by some of the fans here.
I meant that comments like that one, from someone who has clearly not followed Pittsburgh (probably the entire other side of the league...), are even easier to categorize as "just another SoCal hockey fan." However, there are a lot of posters here who know their stuff, and that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Kings develop here in the next few years. I think their youth core is probably one of the best in the game, behind the Pens (obviously!) and the Blackhawks. And the Blackhawks are going to run into cap problems right about the time they go to sign Toews and Kane. Just because the Kings have cap room doesn't mean they should go spend it all on a Gaborik or a Hossa.
As far as winning the Cup without Scuderi, I'm going to go so far as to say that the Pens don't get out of the Capitals series without him. He was everywhere.
And let's be honest: things could be way worse for everyone here. You could all be Ducks fans ;)
