Here's the release from the Kings. Quotes from Scuderi and Lombardi coming soon...

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings have re-signed restricted free agent right wing Kevin Westgarth to a three-year contact, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Westgarth, 25, made his Kings/NHL debut this past season and played in nine games, recording zero points and nine penalty minutes. He also played in 65 games with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, recording 10 points (4-6=10) and a team-leading 165 penalty minutes.

Originally signed by the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on March 16, 2007, the 6-5, 241-pound Westgarth is a native of Amherstberg, Ontario. Before turning pro, he played four years of college hockey at Princeton.

KevinWestgarth will be happy!

But really, glad we got him locked up. If he doesn't take dumb penalties, he's an upgrade over Ivanans.

Happy about this, as I've been a Westy fan since Princeton. Is this a one way or 2 way deal with manchester? He will continue to get better and prove he's a better all around player than Ivanans.

This decade we have had the smartest knuckle draggers.

Yeah, i think KW is certainly an upgrade over Ivanans in the non-fisticuffs aspects of the game.

I look forward to a time when we are deep enough at forwards that Ivanas and Westgarth will have to watch from the stands. I cringe at both of them.

Great we got our priorities straight. We got a forward and Defensmen who need to be signed (Fro and Jack) and we overpay for Scadari and extend Westgrath....GOoooooooooo Deano. Also I find it funny that Dean has no problem giving Scudari that kind of money and yet plays stalemate with Jack who's put up more points then this guy.....Ah wellz.

If you are going to have d men that get involved in the offense, you have to balance them with some stay at home d men as well. I do not know a ton about Scuderi, but the general feeling seems to be that he is a good pick up. I think this gives the Kings a ton of flexibility, which is never a bad thing.

WWAMD- i don't think Scuderi was signed for his offensive prowess, so the points is kind of irrelevant. As for the stalemate, the kings have all summer to sign JJ, whereas the FA period is now and will last only a couple of days (that is for the top FA's). Westgarth probably just accepted his qualifying offer, whereas they will be in more in-depth negotiations with JJ to get a long deal done that suits both parties wants and needs.

I hope they sign JJ in the coming weeks. You've got to admit, the D is looking sick for next year, and will only be better with JJ in the mix.
