About the bloggers
Rich Hammond has covered the Kings, on a full-time or part-time basis, since the 2000-01 season. He was the beat writer for the entire John Torchetti era and has witnessed Bob Miller singing country music in a Nashville honky-tonk bar. A native of Los Angeles, Rich has worked at the Daily News since 1999 and also serves as the paper's deputy sports editor. E-mail Rich at rich.hammond@dailynews.com.
Jill Painter joined the Daily News in 2000 and during the last eight years she's covered the Dodgers, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Kings, golf and everything in between. Even though she's from Colorado, she still freezes in the Staples Center press box but always manages to thaw her fingers in time to make deadline. E-mail Jill at jill.painter@dailynews.com.

Is Dean alive?
When are the Kings gonna make a splash.
Or did somebody forget to remind DL that its already July 1, 2009.
Lappy to Phily???
wow
my head is spinning
Kings splash??? Heellooo????
(tumbleweed passes by)
:( Lappy.....I wish he was a King again. Look the bring back Blake, Luc, can go on and on but not fan favorite Lappy, Good luck in Philly Lappy.
It's actually possible to sign players after july 1 aswell, and both Havlat and Gaborik are still available.
Hey, :ord Cammi has signed with the Habs.
I hope he brushes up on his French.
5 years - $30 Mil
Anthonyy...
We missed you on the chat. You didn't miss anything at all...
Must be that Lawyer's instinct of yours.
Cammy got his six. Sounds like the title of a movie. Like your call on Gainey--He's gonna be the most hated GM in hockey by New Year's Day, 2010.
And, Cammy will be there, soaking it all up firsthand.
Couldn't happen to a more worthy Cheese-blower!
:)
I like Lombardi, but I would like to see a July 1 signing at least once.
So...what up with LGK being PRIVATE???
I can hear the crickets at Staples
Happy Canada Day my fellow Kings fans.
Like most of you, I started the day in great spirits.
After hearing that Lappy signed in Philly, my happiness diminished. NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Now, just a typical Wednesday stuck at work. ='(
Cammi's doing his best little Leprechaun dance around his house right about now.
"Puckaroo said:

Well yeah, they're in El Segundo...
Komisarek signs with Toronto
DL made a comment about working on Plan B come July 1. Some of us might think he was already a step ahead of the game and knew the July 1 frenzy would get a lot of teams in the hole cap-wise and he's just waiting to swing a deal once the dust settles. Others might think he was too slow to grab any good FA's on day one.
(Yes, I'm setting up the inevitable "DL's an idiot" from Anthonyyyyy).
My take--I'd have loved to see a July 1 move (agree with Eric K on this point), but a trade won't happen for a day (or several), and a lot of the money that went out the door for the talent today was either too much for the player or too much for the available cap space we need next year and the following. (see Quisp's ridiculously perceptive post and link from the other day).
That's it, wait till next week Kings, when we can get a difference maker like Calder. This is a riot. Wasn't Cammalleri one of our good young players? This manana mantra is way beyond just being patient, it's a scam. You win with players, veteran players. Young players need veteran leadership to learn how to win. The Ducks are loaded with veterans. Red Wings have Veterans. The Blackhawks and Flyers just picked up veterans. Colorado's great teams won with veterans. You can't expect an 18 year old Schenn to come in and be the difference maker, it's not going to happen. Many of these young guys are up here playing early because of need, not because they earned it.
This diehard Kings fan is very sad. I'm weary of seeing so many former Kings on cup contenders . . . So many fan fav's shelled out to other squads . . . So much $$$ paid for guys that don't pan out. Makes you wanna kick the dog, smack a kid, trip a granny so as to emulate what I fear the great DL is doing to the club.
I await the punch line in all of this . . . maybe a stunning epiphany is in store tomorrow with coffee as I Google News the Kings, scan TSN, review Helene Elliott's chiming in and of course Inside the Kings . . . as they all illuminate an unforseen coup by the club.
The only joy is seeing Pronger traded outta dodge as Teemu and Need' sticking around. (And I hate the Ducks as I respect 'em.) But geez.
