Growing up Lombardi
NESN.com, the website of the big Boston-based cable network, did a big profile of Dean Lombardi today. Lombardi spent his recent vacation back home in Massachusetts, and while the story does cover a lot of familiar ground in terms of team-building, it gives some new insight into Lombardi's background and relationships. An interesting read on an early-August morning...

nice read...thanx, rich...:)
it goes to show you that d.l. has come a long way by doing it the right way...it hasn't yet translated to stanley cup playoff success, but it soon will...and for our sake, let's hope we start that chapter in his career this season...
i'm pumped...and it's only august...!
"hasn't yet translated to stanley cup playoff success"
it hasn't translated into a stanley cup playoff APPEARANCE, let alone success.
it's do or die this season.
Now cue the impatient...
Great read. Thanks Rich!
It's a good read and patience is key. Management has never had it here, and now that they do, we the fans have to go along with it. If you don't see the vast improvement in the team in the past few years you're not looking very hard.
We've waited 40+ years, what's a couple more? At least DL has some "transparency" and letting us in on his plan, I don't think any past regimes have been to forthright to the fans.
For the impatient, move to Tampa Bay!
Ha. I don't think previous regimes lacked transparency, they lacked a plan.

Great read...thanks Rich
It just reiterates what we've been saying since he got here. give him time and he will turn this franchise around...we're well on our way to success.
I can't wait for this season to start.
Wavesinair
Do or die????
So if we don't make the playoffs, you're ready to tear it all down.....
ok...Play GM and tell us how you would do things differently than DL?
What would your plan be for the Kings?
He can't...because he doesn't know.
The fact of the matter is, all these people who constantly complain really don't understand just how bad off this franchise was when Lombardi took over.
I thought the comments after the article were interesting. Did you check those out "wavesinair"? Would you be willing to comment on them here? Thanks
Someone please find a photo of Dean in his Univrsity of New Haven hockey get up. I went to their site and it doesnt look like they even have a hockey program anymore.
Has this Franchise ever had a plan? We finally do and it's nice to the constant, steady improvement since DL has taken over. Even the way he's drafting for Manchesterto get the right players there.
mrbrett, if you read only half the things i've said in the past, you wouldn't lump me in with the constant complainers. your insight into hockey continues to be underwhelming.
the fact of the matter is we have not been in the playoffs for 6 seasons, 4 of which are under DL (whom i support).
the fact of the matter is, we are INDEED doing really good things as an organization. however, we are ALSO making mistakes. things can, and should, be done better.
if, forbid, we don't make the playoffs for a 7th consecutive season, every fan should find it unacceptable. get on board.
nykingfan, by saying 'do or die' it's my hope that aeg sells the kings to someone that actually cares about hockey. until then, DL will continue to walk the line between building a competitive team and making ownership happy by keeping costs down. it's a fine line he's walking and i don't envy his position. he talks a pretty good game when it comes to salary cap issues, but the fact is, we can easily afford an elite scorer. yet we don't have one. i know all the excuses, so no need to repost them.
as for 'turning the franchise around' i'm all for it. however, actions speak louder than words. and winning speaks loudest of all.
hermosa beach is hosting an AVP volleyball tourney this weekend. guess who's got a booth set up trying to attract new fans? yep, you guessed it. the DUCKS! the enemy right in our backyard, recruiting fans, reaching out to the community. our community.
as for the Kings? nowhere to be found. painful.
