End of first: 1-1
It's 1-1 between the Kings and Islanders in Kansas City. Teddy Purcell opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 8:33 (assists to Jarret Stoll and Thomas Hickey) and Andy Sutton tied it with a goal at 10:45 (assists to Trent Hunter and Jeff Tambellini).
Unofficially, each team had seven shots in the period. Jonathan Quick kept it tied with a point-blank save in the final minute with the Islanders on the power play. Nick Nickson seemed quite excited about it, at least...

Kopitar is playing...he wasn't on your lineup Rich.
Westgarth just took a double minor and a misconduct, then Simmonds scored a shorty from Drewiske and Piskula. 2-1 Kings, still killing the double minor.
Isles take 2 straight penalties to turn a double minor PP to a 4 on 3 PK. Then when Westgarth came out of the box it became a 5 on 3. Doughty scores on the 5 on 3 from Frolov! 3 to 1 Kings!
O'Donnell takes a match penalty after he goes after an Isles player who high sticked Doughty in the face because the refs didn't see it or call a penalty.
sounds like Westgarth just beat up Ivanans...then "Our Westgarth" took a double minor, and a game misconduct. I really don't think either one of these heavyweights is gonna be worth the penalties they take-ie. Ivanans last year. It was completely counter productive to have Ivanans out there last season because no one would fight him. The other team would just let him stomp around collecting penalties, evident by the amount of fighting majors he had in relation to other penalties he was assessed
Hey, now somebody sticks up for Doughty. Interesting it was O'Donnell who went after Artyukhin last year, but only cross-checked him in the back. For him to get a match penalty for sticking up for his guy, I think that shows the team this season is becoming "one". They're sticking up for their guys in a way that's necessary for chemistry.
Unfortunately, if it's a match penalty, O'Donnell might be suspended for a few regular season games. Even if it's a preseason game, an Islanders player got a 10-game suspension (I think it was 10 games) for coming off the bench to start a fight with somebody who forced Okposo to leave on a stretcher. O'Donnell will likely receive something as a suspension, but I still like seeing this passion from this team.
On the plus side, if O'Donnell misses a few games, both Drewiske and Hickey can start the season with us. When O'Donnell comes back, we can send Hickey down.
Glad to see Teddy gettin' things started!
Actually, now that I think about it again, the player (not an NHL-caliber player) was suspended for the rest of preseason and 5 regular season games. But still, will be interesting to see if the league looks into it (which they have to automatically because it's a match penalty).
Kevin if a player comes off the bench to join an altercation it is an automatic ten game suspension. I'm pretty sure those ten games are the ten games immeditiately after the penalty, regular or pre season
