End of second: Kings 3-1
The Kings scored twice in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Wayne Simmonds scored a shorthanded goal (assists to Drewiske and Piskula) and Drew Doughty scored a power-play goal (assists to Frolov and Purcell). The Kings did lose Sean O'Donnell, who apparently got a game misconduct penalty for going after an Islanders player (didn't catch who it was exactly) after a hit on Drew Doughty.

Way to show heart OD. Last year this happens and no one fights for the team. This year it looks like the team will have a ton of heart.
Kings still killing the match penalty to OD as they start the 3rd period. Josh Bailey scores on his own rebound :46 seconds into the period. 3-2 Kings.
Matt Martin was the Isles player that high sticked Doughty. Simmonds just dropped the gloves with him after the Kings killed off the major to OD.
You got that right dmh; heart, intensity, determination, fight. This will be an impressive squad this year.
Doughty draws a penalty, they are really going after him this game! Let's get one more G for insurance
It might just be preseason, but this team is already showing more unity than seasons past. Its very exciting to see the team come together so soon. Its a very important thing to a hockey team that is not mentioned enough. I hope more guys take after ODs and Simmonds example of being a teammate.
Simmonds from Frolov into the empty net with 15 seconds left for his 2nd goal of the night. Kings win 4-2.
The two obvious things I take from this game, my first chance to hear a Kings game live during the preseason:
1) The Kings certainly seem to have an "all for one" attitude
2) Jonathon Quick sounds like he's in mid-season form. He made some big saves on the Isles in the 3rd period.
GO KINGS GO!!
Simmonds 2G, Fro 2A, Teddy 1G
preseason: 3-1-1
Bring on the Avs!!!
It is difficult to get a feel for the game without watching it, but I sure would have liked to have seen one more King go after the Isle who high sticked DD. The statement to the rest of the league is 100 times more important than a King getting a match penalty. Thanks for taking your shots OD and Simms. You don't need a letter to be a leader.
