Friday practice
Fairly uneventful morning, except to note that Raitis Ivanans returned to practice today, as part of the ``red'' line with Peter Harrold, Brad Richardson and Brayden Schenn (they took turns going in and out of drills) and that there were no players missing from camp. All other lines remained the same as yesterday.
Practice today looked much sharper than it did on Thursday. Drills were crisp and the players seemed to be having fun, with a lot of joking back and forth. Doesn't mean a whole lot in the grand scheme, except that Terry Murray called it one of the best practices so far, which I suppose is noteworthy since he was not pleased yesterday.
The team is getting ready to head to Las Vegas, and will return Saturday night.
Some notes and quotes to follow soon...

Rich Hammond has covered the Kings, on a full-time or part-time basis, since the 2000-01 season. He was the beat writer for the entire John Torchetti era and has witnessed Bob Miller singing country music in a Nashville honky-tonk bar. A native of Los Angeles, Rich has worked at the Daily News since 1999 and also serves as the paper's deputy sports editor. E-mail Rich at
Jill Painter joined the Daily News in 2000 and during the last eight years she's covered the Dodgers, Cal State Northridge, UCLA, Kings, golf and everything in between. Even though she's from Colorado, she still freezes in the Staples Center press box but always manages to thaw her fingers in time to make deadline. E-mail Jill at

Rich, are you going?
Long ago I was reffing some kids games in Torrance and the Oilers had a practice there. They were joking and loose and doing stuff you never see on the ice. They were at the top of their game in the third or fourth year of the multiple cups. There is nothing wrong with them enjoying practice and it builds comraderie.
So now that Theo Fleury is available, who else thinks that we should pick him up for the league minimum to take Purcell's place alongside Dustin Brown and Jaret Stoll for this season?
thecanucks341,
I would only do that if Purcell failed to produce and then it would be to put Fleury on the 3rd line maybe and move Fro up. Before that I would try Moller or Schenn.
We need to get a little older and more experienced, but not that old.
The Dave Taylor Kings would have definately picked up Theo, and then they would have had a very mediocore season...
Purcell is a much better player than Theo at this stage in their respective careers. I saw Fleury play a couple times this pre season, great hands still, but so has Purcell. Theo can't move out there anymore, he is too old and not anywhere near NHL game shape.
Let's pick Jason Allison back up too... oh wait the Toronto make me laughs already did that ..lol

Does anyone know where the kings are staying? Iam at the tropicana right next to MGM. I am just curious if there is anyway to go and have a chance to see them and chat it up with some players.
So they have to fly back on Saturday night? I guess they have to get all their clubbing & gambling in Friday night.
