Injury news on the Kings’ Anze Kopitar, Jonathan Quick and Willie Mitchell

Kings center Anze Kopitar was cagey when asked Sunday afternoon when he might return to the ice after suffering a sprained right knee while playing in Sweden during the lockout. He said he would be fitted for a knee brace, but wasn’t sure when. He also said he wouldn’t resume skating until he gets the brace.

The Kings expect Kopitar to be sidelined for two to three weeks.

Goaltender Johnathan Quick reported no pain in his back after his first training camp practice after undergoing surgery to repair a disk in his back during the offseason. He might have been sidelined until only a few weeks ago had the players not been locked out by the owners.

Willie Mitchell did not skate with his teammates because of an unspecified knee injury. Kings coach Darryl Sutter was uncertain when Mitchell might be sound enough to practice, but it’s expected that the veteran defenseman won’t be available to play in Saturday afternoon’s opener against the Chicago Blackhawks.
