“For whatever reason, we’ve been having a tough time starting games. We get behind early and have to battle back. Once we do battle back, we seem to just relax a little bit. We’re a much better team than we’re showing and it is extremely disappointing.”

“We came back multiple times and in turn we didn’t kill a penalty. They came back and scored power-play goals on us and that’s extremely deflating. It’s upsetting that we’re where we’re at right now but we have to push forward. We have a big road trip coming up and, as everyone is saying, every point is important.”

On the importance of the impending four-game road trip

“In a 48-game schedule, every game is key. We need to keep pace. We’re going into some tough buildings to play in. It starts with Columbus and they’re playing pretty good hockey. We’ve got to focus on Columbus right now, one game at a time. We can’t be thinking about Detroit, St. Louis, whoever else we play.”

On scoring three goals in the last two games:

“I’m just feeling better on the ice. … We’re getting pucks to the net. Tonight it was the power play, but it’s getting pucks around the net and my three goals have been within 10 feet of the net. That’s a result of Dewey, Ricky and Kopi getting the puck around there and me just battling.”

On playing against Jack Johnson in Columbus:

“We played him last year. We know what to expect from Jack. There’s been a big shakeup in Columbus in the Nash deal. They’ll have a different look to their team so, like I said, we have to focus on that game.”

On penalty killing:

“Our PK, again, that correlates I think really well to how we’re playing 5-on-5. We gave up three power-play goals tonight. They’ve got skill. I think their power play is clicking along pretty good, but our PK’s a staple of our game. To give up three … it’s one of those indications that we’re not being as hard as we need to be in the hard areas.”
