The Kings scored four times during their rout Monday of the Blues in St. Louis, so that’s good, right? Yes, but they’ve got to do that more often if they hope to re-create their Stanley Cup magic of last spring, which brings us to our first giveaway:
The Kings have a minus six goal differential so far this season. They have scored 26 goals, a paltry number, and given up 32, a good but not great figure. They won’t be a playoff team until they reverse the ratio and have quite a few more goals for than against. The key to their regular-season success really is that simple. They must score more goals and from a wide range of players. Scoring depth is what makes good teams into great teams. And you can’t win consistently with a negative goal differential.
