Interview with Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi (part II)

Here’s the second half of my interview with Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi

What changed in the win over St. Louis and the loss to Detroit? “I think it’s a mixture –I know it’s an excuse – but getting some rust off and playing some games and getting back into game shape. I know, myself personally, I felt way better the last two games. I think in a shortened season, there’s going to be some swings. We’ve seen it already with some teams that started hot, like San Jose, and now they wonder what’s going on already. You’ve got a whole season jammed into 30 or 34 less games or whatever it is. You’re still going to have those same momentum swings. You’re going to have to find a way to deal with it and maintain some type of consistency.”

Addressing the lopsided schedule, with only four home games so far in the first 12 contests: “This is my fourth season and we’ve been away every February because of the award shows. I don’t even know what it is. The Grammys? It’s part of it, but at the tail end of that we know we’re going to get a big homestand. We always have the last four years. This year will be no different. We have to take advantage when it comes.”

Talking about the team’s track record of winning on the road: “It’s a different season, but since the team is pretty much made up of the same guys, I think if you can keep that mentality and play the right way and play a smart road game, you really help yourself try to get a win. And that’s what we were able to do last year in the playoffs. That’s what we’re hoping to accomplish on this road trip coming up. We didn’t make a run the last 20 games last year doing anything fancy, just being a good solid team from the back end out and finishing opportunities when we had them. Not shooting yourself in the foot. I think every championship team has some kind of mix of those elements.”
