Jake Muzzin gets a second chance to impress Kings coach Darryl Sutter

With three defensemen sidelined because of injuries, rookie Jake Muzzin will get another chance to play, Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. Muzzin will take Alec Martinez’s spot in the lineup for Friday’s home game against the Columbus Blue Jackets after Martinez suffered an upper-body injury in Monday’s victory over the Blues in St. Louis.

“We took Muzzin out because he was horse … in Anaheim,” Sutter said, catching himself. “Most guys play like that in one game and they’re doing time again. He’s got to put his foot on the right pedal if he wants to play again. If he’s going to play (against Columbus) he better have it on the right pedal or somebody else gets the chance. That’s not being harsh or anything. That’s exactly what it takes to be a defenseman.”

The Kings are already without Matt Greene (back) and Willie Mitchell (knee).
