My eight games in eight nights adventure continues Saturday with Kings-Flames

After a stop Friday in Anaheim to see the Ducks face the Calgary Flames, I’m back at Staples Center on Saturday for Hockey Night in Los Angeles. Actually, the Hockey Night in Canada crew will be in town to air the Kings-Flames tilt in the Great White North on CBC. The first half of my adventure featured three wins by the home teams followed by the Kings’ clunker of a loss Thursday to the Dallas Stars.

It wasn’t so much that the Kings lost, but how it happened that seemed to anger coach Darryl Sutter after the game. I can’t say I blame him. The Kings’ goaltending wasn’t sharp and their defensive play in front of Jonathan Quick wasn’t sound, either. Sutter criticized Quick in no uncertain terms. Quick was a bit grouchy, too. The Kings’ were especially poor in the third period, when the Starts scored three times.

After Saturday’s game, I’m back in Anaheim to see the Ducks take on the St. Louis Blues before catching the Kings’ rematch with the Flames. In most respects the first four games were easy on the eyes. There were different opponents and the games were varied. But with three of the next four featuring the lackluster Flames as the opposition, I’m not sure how this will play out for Games 5, 6, 7 and 8. I could use a day off on Tuesday. Or a nice cool adult beverage. Or both.
