The Kings took the long-awaited and much-anticipated step of recalling center Tyler Toffoli from Manchester (N.H.) of the American Hockey League on Sunday afternoon. The 20-year-old Toffoli has been lighting up the AHL in his rookie season in the minor leagues, scoring 28 goals and recording 20 assists with a team-leading plus-minus defensive rating of plus-20 in 55 games. Toffoli could make his debut Monday, when the Kings play host to the Calgary Flames at Staples Center. He was the club’s second-round pick (47th overall) in the 2010 entry draft. The Kings didn’t practice Sunday, so coach Darryl Sutter was unavailable to comment on his plans for Toffoli.
