The Kings and Phoenix met Monday night at Staples Center for the second time in less than a week, with the Coyotes winning last Tuesday in Glendale, Ariz. The teams play again Tuesday at Staples Center, completing a stretch in which the Kings faced only two opponents in five games.

The Kings went into Monday’s game in sixth place in the Western Conference standings with 32 points. They were two points out of fourth place, but also only two points of being out of the playoff picture. So, there was no margin for error in the next few games.

Home ice has been good to the Kings so far this season. They were 10-2-1 at Staples Center going into Monday’s game, the second contest in a five-game homestand. The road has been less than kind to the Coyotes, who were 3-6-3 away from home.

Anze Kopitar led the Kings in scoring with 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) in 26 games going into the game. Jeff Carter had a team-leading 17 goals and two assists. Defenseman Slava Voynov also had 19 points (four goals, 15 assists).

Mikkel Boedker led the Coyotes with 18 points (six goals, 12 assists).
