Looking forward to the Kings’ game Tuesday night against the Coyotes

The Kings and the Phoenix Coyotes met Tuesday for the second consecutive night and the third time in eight days, a quirk of the NHL lockout schedule. The Kings lost the first game last Tuesday in Arizona 5-2 and then blanked the Coyotes 4-0 on Monday at Staples Center.

The Coyotes failed to score Monday for the third consecutive game. They had plenty of scoring chances, but couldn’t get the puck by Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick, who recorded his first shutout of the season and the 25th of his career.

Rookies Jake Muzzin and Tyler Toffoli scored the Kings’ first two goals. For Toffoli, it was his first NHL goal in his second game with the Kings. Muzzin, a defenseman, has six goals in 25 games. Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter also scored for the Kings. It was Carter’s team-leading 18th goal.

The Kings are fourth in the Western Conference standings. The Coyotes are ninth.
