No Richards update, but Penner-Carter-Toffoli line could stick together

Kings coach Darryl Sutter couldn’t say Monday whether injured center Mike Richards would play in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals on Tuesday at Staples Center. Sutter did say a makeshift line of Dustin Penner, Jeff Carter and rookie Tyler Toffoli formed the Kings’ best line during their 4-2 loss Sunday to the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 2. Carter moved from right wing to center to replace Richards, who suffered a concussion in Game 1 on Saturday. Toffoli returned to the lineup as the right wing on the Kings’ second line. Sutter used the word “awesome” to describe their play.

Toffoli set up Carter’s third-period goal and then scored one himself late in the game.
