Final: Blackhawks 4, Kings 3 (2-OT)

The Kings’ reign as Stanley Cup champions ended when Patrick Kane scored just after the midway point of double-overtime to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 4-3 victory in Game 5. It was Kane’s third goal of the game and vaulted the Blackhawks into the Stanley Cup Final. Chicago faces the Boston Bruins in Game 1 on Wednesday.

No team has won back-to-back Stanley Cups since the Detroit Red Wings in 1997 and ’98. The Kings reached the Western Conference finals in back-to-back seasons for the first time in their history.

The Kings rallied from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to force the game into sudden-death overtime. Kane ended the longest game in Kings’ history with a one-timed shot off a cross-ice pass from Chicago captain Jonathan Toews.
