NBC Sports says the conference finals were the most-watched in 17 years

The conference finals series between the Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins generated the highest ratings in 17 years, an increase of 111 percent from last season, according to NBC Sports. Game 5 of the Western Conference finals Saturday between the Kings and the Blackhawks was the most-watched non-Stanley Cup Final game since NBC began airing games in 2006.

The game drew a 2.2 national rating and peaked with 5.57 million viewers between 8:45 p.m. and 9. The game was up 177 percent over last season’s clinching game in the West (Kings-Phoenix Coyotes). In Los Angeles, the Blackhawks’ 4-3 double-overtime victory over the Kings drew a 3.84 rating, the best non-Final local rating on NBC. In Chicago, Game 5 had a 19.61 rating, also the best non-Final local rating on NBC.
