Kings captain Dustin Brown, goaltender Jonathan Quick and unsigned free agent forward Trevor Lewis were invited Monday to attend the United States Olympic team orientation camp Aug. 26-27 in Arlington, Va. Brown and Quick were no-brainers for the selection committee and should be key members of Team USA’s roster for the Sochi Olympics.
Lewis’ selection was a mild surprise, but well-earned given his lunch-pail style of play for the Kings. There are 48 names on the preliminary roster and 16 have Olympic experience, including Brown. He was a member of the team that won silver at the 2010 Vancouver Games. Quick will compete with Jimmy Howard, among others, for the starting job.
David Poile of the Nashville Predators is the team’s general manager. The Pittsburgh Penguins’ Dan Bylsma, a former Kings player, is the coach.
