Kings place Carter on IR, lose Ellerby to Jets, recall Toffoli and Vey

The Kings on Saturday placed forward Jeff Carter on injured reserve (retroactive to Wednesday) because of a lower-body injury. They also announced they lost defenseman Keaton Ellerby to the Winnipeg Jets, who claimed him off waivers. The Kings recalled forwards Tyler Toffoli and Linden Vey from their ECHL affiliate in Ontario, where they stashed them Friday. Toffoli and Vey participated in the Kings’ morning skate in advance of Saturday’s home game against Nashville.

Toffoli led the Manchester (N.H.) Monarchs of the American Hockey League with seven goals and 12 points before the Kings sent him and Vey to Ontario in anticipation of Saturday’s recall. Vey had three goals and 11 points for Manchester. Toffoli played 10 regular-season games and 12 playoff contests last season for the Kings. Vey has yet to make his NHL debut.

Carter has nine points in 14 games and was tied with Justin Williams with the team lead with five goals before Saturday’s game against the Predators. The extent of his injury was unclear, although teammates said they saw him wearing a walking boot before they practiced Friday. The team had the day off Thursday.
