Slovenia picks Anze Kopitar for its Olympic team (shocking, right?)

Anze Kopitar, the Kings’ leading scorer with 35 points, was named Monday to the Slovenian Olympic team. Kopitar, who has 13 goals and 22 assists, is the only player in the NHL from Slovenia, so his selection to the 25-man team was hardly a surprise. Plus, his father, Matjaz, is the national team coach.

Kopitar’s younger brother, Gaspar, did not make the team. Gaspar Kopitar signed recently with the Ontario Reign of the ECHL. Slovenia is in Group A at the Sochi Olympics, playing round-robin games against Team USA, Russia and Slovakia. So, it could be a short stay for the Slovenians.
