Wayne Gretzky and NHL ice truck to appear Monday at Dodger Stadium

You know all about Wayne Gretzky, but you probably don’t know how the NHL’s mobile ice truck works to help create the ice conditions needed for outdoor hockey games. The Great One and the key part of the league’s outdoor setup will both be on display Monday at Dodger Stadium.

The truck has completed the 2,200-mile drive from Ann Arbor, Mich., where the 53-foot trailer was responsible for making the ice at the Big House for Toronto’s victory over Detroit on New Year’s Day. The Kings and Ducks will play Jan. 25 at Dodger Stadium in the first NHL outdoor game in California.

Gretzky, his former Kings teammate Luc Robitaille, Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau, NHL executive Don Runzulli and league ice-making guru Dan Craig will be on hand to discuss everything relating to the game. We’ll have a full report Monday.
