Darryl Sutter talks about the status of injured Kings center Jarret Stoll

Kings coach Darryl Sutter delivered the news Wednesday in his usual quirky manner. No postgame word or comment on the injury to Kings center Jarret Stoll

The Kings suffered a noteworthy loss Tuesday in Game 1, when veteran center Jarret Stoll was forced from the game after the Sharks’ Raffi Torres slammed him against the glass and was penalized for charging at 19 minutes, 2 seconds of the second period.

Stoll did not return to the Kings’ bench for the third period and general manager Dean Lombardi said after the game that he didn’t know the extent of his injury. Kings coach Darryl Sutter would say only, “We weren’t resting him and he didn’t come back.”

Torres said he didn’t believe his hit was worthy of a penalty.

Looking forward to the Kings’ game Monday night against the Blackhawks

The Kings left town Sunday for a five-game trip with a two-game losing streak and a scoreless streak that stretched for more than two contests. They begin their final lengthy trip of the season with a stop in Chicago on Monday night to face the league-leading Blackhawks. First period: Kings 2, Flames 0

Nothing to see here. Move along. The Calgary Flames three-game trip to Southern California turned nightmarish long before they played the Kings for the second time in three nights Monday at Staples Center. After all, the Kings hammered them 6-2 on Saturday and the Ducks thumped them 4-0 on Friday at the Honda Center. So, when the Kings jumped to a 2-0 lead Monday, it hardly seemed unexpected. Dustin Brown (power play) and Jarret Stoll scored in the game’s first 10 minutes and the Kings appeared to be rolling toward their second straight win over the Flames.

Here’s more analysis from center Jarret Stoll on the Kings’ improved play

Kings center Jarret Stoll speaks about that elusive feeling of confidence

Here’s what Jarret Stoll had to say Saturday afternoon about the Kings gaining confidence as they pick up victories: “Confidence is a funny thing. Sometimes it doesn’t matter what kind of team you have, whether you’ve won or you’ve lost. Sometimes you have an eight- or nine-game winning streak and you lose one and all of a sudden your confidence dips a lot. It’s one of those things that’s funny. You’ve got to just work hard to keep it. Once you have it, you just have to roll with it and try to play well with it and get as many wins as you can.”
