Jordan Nolan agrees with the Kings on a new two-year, $1.4-million contract

Free agent forward Jordan Nolan avoided an arbitration hearing next month when he agreed to a new two-season, $1.4-million contract with the Kings on Friday. The website capgeek.com first reported the deal. Nolan had six points (two goals, four assists) in 44 games during the lockout-shortened 48-game season in 2012-13. His signing leaves free agent forward Trevor Lewis as the last of four Kings originally on the list of players who filed for arbitration. Lewis can avoid a hearing by signing with the team before his Aug. 2 hearing in Toronto. The Kings have roughly $1.5 million of salary cap space available to sign players for next season.

Arbitration hearing dates set for Kings’ Trevor Lewis and Jordan Nolan

Can’t imagine anyone really wants to go through salary arbitration, and the NHL list is down to 14 from 21, according to the NHLPA. There once were four Kings on the list, but after defensemen Alec Martinez (Monday) and Jake Muzzin (last Friday) each agreed to new two-year deals, it’s down to only forwards Trevor Lewis and Jordan Nolan. Nolan is scheduled for Aug. 1 and Lewis is set for the next day. They can avoid the grueling hearings by agreeing to new contracts at any time before their dates.

Trevor Lewis and three other Kings free agents elect salary arbitration

Restricted free agents Trevor Lewis, Alec Martinez, Jake Muzzin and Jordan Nolan elected salary arbitration Wednesday, an attempt to solve contract impasses with the Kings. They are four of 21 players league-wide who elected to go this route. Teams also can take players to arbitration in order to settle disputes. The deadline is Thursday at 2 p.m. (PDT). The ruling of the arbitrator is final. Hearings are scheduled for July 22 through Aug. 6 in Toronto. Lewis, Martinez, Muzzin and Nolan became free agents July 5.

Kings forward Jordan Nolan fined for cross-check on Canucks’ Henrik Sedin

Jordan Nolan of the Kings was fined $1,436.94 for cross-checking Henrik Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks during Saturday afternoon’s game at Staples Center, the NHL’s department of player safety announced Sunday. Nolan was not penalized on the play, which happened along the boards at 5:58 of the second period of the Kings’ 1-0 loss to the Canucks. Kyle Clifford was given a roughing penalty one second later, however. Nolan was considered a first-time offender. The fine is the maximum allowed under the league’s collective bargaining agreement with its players.

First period: Kings 0, Stars 0

The Kings scratched 20-year-old rookie Tyler Toffoli and Jordan Nolan returned to the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars at Staples Center. Nolan generated a quality scoring chance, cutting through the Stars’ defense and unleashing a shot from the slot that Kari Lehtonen had to be sharp to handle. Kyle Clifford had another good scoring opportunity for the Kings, breaking ahead of the pack on a shorthanded bid in the closing seconds of the opening period. The Kings outshot the Stars 12-5.

Off-season training starts early for Kings prospects.

Manchester Monarchs forward Ray Kaunisto shared an interesting tidbit on his blog today. From raykaunisto.blogspot.com:

This week, starting Tuesday, the Kings let us come down to Detroit to workout and shoot with some of the development guys. It is just a two day camp that shows us how to properly shoot, stick handle, and other on ice skills, as well as helping us out with learning the kings workout.

The guys here are Kozun, Schenn, Toffoli, Dowd, Clifford, Czarnik, Weal, Nolan, and Muzzin. The days consist of two off ice sessions per day and two on ice sessions per day. Everything is pretty tough to do but it makes us better really quickly. A lot of good ideas for shooting and practicing are being passed on to us this week from some really good former NHLers. As always it’s an honor to be here and be around so many world class players and coaches.
