Sunday’s split-squad lineups for the Kings’ exhibitions against Phoenix

Goaltenders Jonathan Quick, Mathieu Garon and J.F. Berube are listed on the Kings’ roster for Sunday’s split-squad game against the Phoenix Coyotes at Staples Center. Coach Darryl Sutter said Saturday that Quick would not play, so expect to see Garon and Berube. Others on the Staples Center squad include: defensemen Matt Greene, Drew Doughty and Slava Voynov and forwards Anze Kopitar, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter.

The Kings will face a traveling Coyotes squad that features a lot of very high numbers and unfamiliar names. Brandon Yip, anyone?

The Kings’ lineup for the game in Glendale, Ariz., includes goalies Martin Jones, Ben Scivens and Mathias Niederberger, defensemen Keaton Ellerby, Jake Muzzin and Jeff Schultz and forwards Daniel Carcillo, Trevor Lewis and Jarret Stoll. They will face a more veteran Coyotes lineup that includes goalie Mike Smith, defenseman Keith Yandle and forwards Shane Doan and Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Kings’ training camp storylines (part 5)

What to watch as the Kings began training camp Thursday:

There’s zero question as to the Kings’ starting goaltender. It’ll be Jonathan Quick unless he’s hurt or abducted by aliens. The question is who will be his backup now that Jonathan Bernier is a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs? The Kings have seven goalies in camp, including Quick. It would seem the logical selection would be Ben Scrivens, the man they got from the Maple Leafs in the Bernier trade over the summer. But there also a couple of interesting names to pick from, including Mathieu Garon. The NHL veteran is here on a tryout basis and coach Darryl Sutter said he’ll be given every opportunity to try to win a job. Patrik Bartosak, J.F. Berube, Martin Jones and Mathias Niederberger also are in camp.
