Kwame surgery

Things could get crazier for the Lakers, but only if Staples Center collapses. What a mess. On top of the Kobe debacle -- we'll have more on that in tomorrow's Daily News -- and Jerry Buss' police trouble, Kwame Brown had his expected ankle surgery today. I'll attach the release from the Lakers, but the important news is that the Lakers believe Brown will be ready to play in four months. That means he would be ready to start the season, despite recent speculation that he might not be ready for the season opener.

KWAME BROWN UNDERGOES LEFT ANKLE SURGERY

El SEGUNDO – Los Angeles Lakers forward/center Kwame Brown underwent successful reconstructive surgery on his left ankle, it was announced today.

The procedure was performed by Dr. David Porter in Indianapolis, Indiana. Brown will begin rehab in approximately 1-2 weeks and will be able to start running in 6-8 weeks. He is expected to make a full and complete recovery and return to playing status in a minimum of four months.

In 41 games this season, Brown averaged 8.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and a career-best 1.20 blocked shots in 27.6 minutes. After missing the opening seven games of the season while recovering from a rotator cuff bruise/bursitis in his right shoulder, Brown suffered a severely sprained ankle December 31 versus Philadelphia, an injury that would keep him out of the team’s next 27 contests and a total of 34 games in all.

In five postseason games, Brown averaged 8.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 26.6 minutes while scoring a playoff career-high 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting April 26 versus Phoenix.
