Coby, not Kevin

| | Comments (21) |

While the Boston Celtics appear on the verge of acquiring Kevin Garnett for a package headlined by Al Jefferson -- it seems that Garnett has changed his mind about playing in Boston...we don't know superstars who changes their mind frequently, do we? -- the Lakers announced the signing of...Coby Karl.

It's something that has been in the works for quite some time. Karl, a 6-foot-5 guard, played on the Lakers' summer league team and average 12.2 points. He had a solid career at Boise State and you might remember that Karl had cancerous lymph nodes removed from this throat this year.

I think signing Coby Karl was a smart move because he really is a good basketball player. He was solid while watching him play in the summer league games and he has a bright future ahead of him. But I see this signing as something more than meets the eye. Because LA has 6 Guards under contracts now, I definitely see this as a potential plan to move a couple of players (or more) for a defensive specialist possibly at the SF spot. Players like Artest, Patterson and Posey are instant options right now. It really doesn't seem like a bad idea if you think about it. We certainly have some pieces to get this done. (Cook, Vlad, Sasha, Farmer, JC and now Coby). We definitely need to make some moves....make em now!

Another non-athletic small who can't defend? No thanks Mitch.

gdchild said:

E, I hope so.

Phil said we needed a pg and a big who can defend. I don't think the FO has addressed either position.

The Celtics are better than the Lakers. Today is a dark day in Lakerland.

I feel that Coby is a good player but the lakers don't need any more guards they need a dominant center who can start and get about 11 pt. per game and someone who can rebound and block shots. If the Lakers management was smart they would trade some of their guards to acquire a good center

What upsets me the most about this trade is that the Lakers tied thier own hands in getting a 17 year old center with no experience at all at number 10 2 years ago. Everybody in the sports world questioned why the Lakers would pick this kid up, When we have a Veteran as our center piece. That pick just completely destroyed any chance we had at Garnett or any other big name Player. That pick may go down as the worst pick ever in Laker History. We didnt have 3 to 4 years to waste on a Player that barely played highschool basketball. Dr. Buss should be ashamed at what has transpired this offseason. Its his fault and his alone. Hes lied to Kobe and us fans. Again Im not pissed about Garnett going to our worst enemy. Im just pissed That we were lied to by the owner of this Lakers team.

Hey lakers fan I don't really understand how we let a kg get pass us. Once again Mitch just keep showing us that he doesn't know how to do a decent job not a great job just a decent job It don't take a rocket science to figure out that Kobe is asking for a lil help this is getting a little frustrating each year to watch one of the greatest team in league history to look worse than the clippers. LOL to the Clippers still got a lot of love for you :))>

Fire out Mitch K. now before it's too late! Examine all the moves and contract signing since he took over from Jerry W. Obviously, he does not have a concept of his job. Dr Buss, put friendship aside and kick him out of Lakerland. Lakers fans need to see changes for the better NOW!

I have ben following the Lakers since the days fo M. Cooper, B. Scoot, AC Green, and others. I dont mention Magic, Kareem or Worthy because they were great and everyone knows it. I mention the others because they were te best role players in the league. I role player is more than a body on the court. They bring the same aspects of the game as the stars do just not at the same level. Walton is a great role player, Evans off the bench is a good role player. Other than those two, I dont see any solid role players. Odom wants the spotlight but won't work for it. Brown is a career backup. Mihm is an accident waiting to happen and Bynum is a TRUE MISTAKE. Lakers management should really consider where they want to go with this team. Kobe is Kobe, but Kobe is nothing without another star and more good/great role players. I am glad to see Fisher back--Hope his daughter gets to enjoy a long and fruitful life.

PS. We will be lucky to win 35 games next year with this current roster.

Hey we missed out on signing the best offseason acusitions in the leage but I think we have enough to sign Coby Carl. He looks to be a steal. Plus he has been around the game all his life, and has a dad whom has a inside perspective. As long as he can stay healthy he has a "Kobe" potential.
