Walton to re-sign

| | Comments (3) |

The Lakers and Luke Walton have reached agreement on a six-year, $30-million contract. Word is that general manager Mitch Kupchak was in touch with Walton's agent, Lon Babby, shortly after midnight Sunday and got the deal done. ``They called at the earliest possible moment, and we worked on it all day'' Babby told ESPN.com. ``They wanted him back, and Luke wanted to be there. We wanted to make every effort to get an agreement before we went out and looked at any other teams." Walton, 27, averaged 11.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists. The move will not officially be announced until July 11, when contracts can be signed.

Luke stays, fine.

Too much money, too many years though.

Its incredible the Lakers got this done so fast and at a decent rate.

At $6m/year he's still trade-able after year 1.

The Lakers problem has been defense, and Luke is certainly not the answer. He had a career best year, and it wasn't all that good. We need a major upgrade in the front court, including guys that can defend.
