The Lakers got a quick workout in Monday before catching a 2 p.m. flight to the Big D, where they’ll play the first game of a back-to-back against the Mavericks on Tuesday night.

There are no significant injuries to report on, so the bulk of today’s media session focused on how the team would look to stave off the complacency that can creep in when you blow out the first five teams you play by an average of 22 points.

After last night’s big in over Houston, Lamar Odom said that if or win the Lakers lose, he hoped it would be because another team “beat them.” In other words, that another team just came out and took it to the Lakers instead of the Lakers beating themselves.

That said, it wasn’t all that surprising that many of the Lakers hadn’t done too much specific thinking about Dallas yet. Most of that will be done on the plane ride this afternoon, and tommorrow morning.

I asked Phil Jackson how much he’d seen of Dallas this season and he mentioned that he’d watched their first game against Houston, but hadn’t seen much else.

“Did you catch their game against the Clippers yesterday?” I asked.

“I caught a nap is what I caught,” Phil joked.

Before you start throwing that up on the bulletin board in the Mavericks locker room though, remember that the Lakers had shoot-around Sunday morning, then played the Rockets at 630. The Clippers and Mavs played at 12:30, so it’s not all that surprising Jackson decided in favor of a few extra Z’s.
