Pau Gasol doesn’t rule out playing Friday vs. Thunder

NEW ORLEANS – After sitting out two consecutive games to heal the tendinitis in both of his knees, Pau Gasol sounded optimistic enough not to rule out returning Friday when the Lakers visit the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“It’s not impossible,” Gasol said following the Lakers’ 103-87 victory Wednesday over the New Orleans Hornets. “We’ll see. We don’t try to predetermine what will happen in the next day or two.”

Gasol stressed a possible return against the Thunder (15-4), the top team in the Western Conference, doesn’t relate one bit to his hope to rectify the Lakers’ loss to them in the 2012 West semifinals.

The Lakers (9-10) have a day off Thursday in Oklahoma City. For the past two days, Gasol has performed various exercises to strengthen his glutes and quads in addition to icing and electronic stimulation.

“I’m taking good drugs,” Gasol joked. “The ones that are legal and ones you don’t get suspended for.”
