Devin Ebanks to start against Washington

WASHINGTON D.C. — As Pau Gasol continuously rehabs his knee tendinitis, the Lakers continue to change who they start at power forward.

The latest wrinkle: Devin Ebanks will start at power forward when the Lakers play the Washington Wizards tonight at Verizon Center a day after having a career-high 15 points in the Lakers’ loss Thursday to the New York Knicks.

Ebanks’ promotion also coincides with Jordan Hill sitting out tonight because of back spasms. He has played the entire season monitoring a herniated disk in his back.

Lakers’ coach Mike D’Antoni said in the future he will likely feature Ebanks at power forward on offense and small forward on defense.

“If Devin continues to improve and work, he’ll get more time,” D’Antoni said. “He’s doing that. So expect him to get more time.”

Ebanks’ role has fluctuated all year. After being perceived as a hard working albeit unassuming small forward, Ebanks fell out of the rotation for nearly two weeks shortly after being arrest on suspicion of DUI on Nov. 9. Incidentally, that marked the same time the Lakers fired coach Mike Brown following a 1-4 start.
