Pau Gasol describes plantar fasciitis as “sore”

Pau Gasol’s New Year’s resolution involving staying healthy goes beyond a cliched platitude.

The Lakers forward described the plantar fasciitis in his right foot “as sore,” though he vowed again it won’t detract him from playing.

“Hopefully it won’t increase and it won’t be painful where I can’t jump and move around and it will force me to miss games,” Gasol said. “It’s a pain in the [rear].”

Gasol said he has nursed the injury “for a while,” but it didn’t become public until he had an MRI on Thursday. But that hardly inhibited his aggressiveness in the Lakers’ 104-87 victory Friday over the Portland Trail Blazers. In that game, he posted 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting, 2 of 3 from 3-point range, nine rebounds and five assists. After Monday’s practice, Gasol also won a three-point shooting contest against Jodie Meeks and Jordan Hill. Gasol successfully made at least two three-pointers in each spot.

“It feels good,” Gasol said, “to beat Jodie Meeks in shooting.”

Now Gasol hopes his foot feels better soon.

“My main goal is to keep working on my body and taking care of it as much as I can so I can stay healthy and be on the floor with my team,” Gasol said. “Right now I’m dealing with a couple of things. It’s not easy to deal with. That’s my goal: to get healthier so I can play a little better.”
