Robert Sacre reassigned to D-Fenders

After providing endless cheerleading on the bench worthy of a highlight video, the Robert Sacre era could come to a close.

The Lakers reassigned the seldom-used second round draft pick from Gonzaga to the D-Fenders Saturday and will suit up for tonight’s game at 6:30 p.m. against the Sioux Falls at the Lakers’ practice facility in El Segundo. This marks Sacre’s third assignment with the Lakers’ Development League affiliate.

Sacre’s $474,000 salary becomes guaranteed if he is still with the Lakers on Jan. 10. If the team intended to cut Sacre, it would need to request waivers on him by 2 p.m. PST Monday. The same applies to Darius Johnson Odom, who the Lakers drafted out of Marquette with the 55th overall pick.

Sacre played a limited role with the Lakers, averaging 0.5 points and 0.8 rebounds in 4.2 minutes. But he became a fan and locker room favorite for his positive mindset, willingness to perform rookie duties, hard work in practice and, of course, his dances from the bench.
