Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol and Jordan Hill injured and won’t play vs. Houston

The hits keep coming for the Lakers, who announced Monday that Dwight Howard suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder and will be sidelined indefinitely. The team also said Pau Gasol has a concussion and also will be out indefinitely. Jordan Hill has a right hip injury and won’t travel with the team to Houston for Tuesday’s game.

Howard was initially hurt during the Lakers’ loss to the Clippers on Friday and aggravated his shoulder in Sunday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets. An MRI exam revealed the injury Monday morning. He will travel with the team to Houston.

Gasol suffered a cut on his nose when he was elbowed by Denver’s JaVale McGee late in Sunday’s game. He was examined by a neurologist Monday, who determined he suffered a concussion.

Hill hurt his hip Sunday. He was scheduled to be examined further later Monday.

Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni said rookie 7-footer Robert Sacre would start in place of Howard at center against the Rockets. He said “we’ll go small at lot,” when asked about making up for the loss of the 7-foot Gasol and the 6-9 Hill.
