Dwight Howard to have PRP procedure Friday on right shoulder

MINNEAPOLIS — In hopes of strengthening his sore right shoulder, Dwight Howard will receive a platelet rich plasma (PRP) procedure Friday.

Howard will fly to Los Angeles today to visit Dr. Steven Yoon before undergoing the PRP procedure. He will then fly to Detroit to rejoin the team.

The Lakers have listed Howard as day-to-day when they play Sunday against the Pistons.

PRP procedures involves blood being taken from the patient and isolating the components in hopes of accelerating the healing process and relieving pain. Lakers guard Steve Blake had a similar procedure on his lower abdominal injury, though the effects were minimal.

With Howard sitting out tonight against the Minnnesota Timberwolves, Pau Gasol will start in his place at center.
