Shaq’s retirement ceremony to feature Kobe Bryant taped message, Phil Jackson speaking

Before Shaquille O’Neal becomes the ninth Lakers play to have his jersey retired, some notable figures will speak on his storied eight-year career with the Lakers.

At halftime of the Lakers’ game tonight against the Dallas Mavericks at Staples Center, a taped message from Kobe Bryant will appear on the arena’s videoboard. Former Lakers coach Phil Jackson and Lakers executive vice president of business operations Jeanie Buss will speak. Following O’Neal’s unveiling of his No. 34 jersey on the rafters, the former Lakers center will then address the crowd.

Before all that, the Lakers will feature a highlight video, showcasing how O’Neal won three of his four NBA championships with the Lakers where he averaged 27 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.5 blocks per game in eight seasons.
