Steve Nash “super optimistic” he will play Friday against Memphis Grizzlies

Though he’s about to miss his second consecutive game because of a strained right hamstring and a right hip spasm, Lakers guard Steve Nash said he’s “super optimistic to play Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies.

“It’s getting better,” Nash said in a brief moment in the Lakers’ locker room. “But it’s still painful.

After having a hip spasm last week when the played in Golden State, Nash noticed it progressively worsened enough for him to sit out most of the second half of the Lakers’ loss last week to the Milwaukee Bucks. Nash played less than two minutes in the Lakers win Saturday over the Milwaukee Bucks after an awkward landing sparked his hamstring injury. The Lakers have listed Nash as day-to-day.

Lakers guard Steve Blake will start at the point guard spot for the second consecutive game. In the Lakers’ 103-98 win Saturday over the Sacramento Kings, Blake posted 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting from 3-point range.
