Dwight Howard: “I had a lot of great meetings”

Two days, five meetings and whole lot of speculation later, Dwight Howard hasn’t indicated where he will he play next season.

Howard met with the Lakers for an hour and 45 minutes on Tuesday in Beverly Hills, but he hardly provided much insight on anything surrounding it.

“I had a lot of great meetings,” said Howard before driving away in a white hatchback Ferrari.

Indeed he did.

Howard met with the Houston Rockets Sunday evening shortly after free agency began, followed by meetings Monday with the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors and Tuesday with the Dallas Mavericks and Lakers. Kupchak also had pre-arranged to have a short and informal meeting with Howard both on Saturday and Sunday evening shortly before he met with Houston.

The Lakers brought plenty of people to make their pitch, including Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, coach Mike D’Antoni, general manager Mitch Kupchak and business/marketing guru Tim Harris. Howard’s agents Dan Fagen and Happy Walters were there, fitting considering the meeting took place at Relativity Sports, the sports agency Fagen and Walters represents. Even representatives with Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Anschutz Entertainment Group were there. Executive vice president of business operations Jim Buss, though team governor Jeanie Buss didn’t attend.

“We told him how important he is to the Lakers, franchise, fans and community, why we feel this is the best place for him to continue his career,” Kupchak said in a statement. “We are hopeful that Dwight remains a Laker.”

The Lakers won’t know that answer right away.

Howard will soon leave California both to mull his free agency choices and to enjoy the 4th of July holiday on Thursday, according to a source familiar with his plans.
