Antawn Jamison to play for Clippers next season

For the second consecutive season, Antawn Jamison will play one season for the veteran’s minimum in hopes of winning his first NBA championship.

There’s one key difference, though. Jamison won’t do that with the Lakers again, instead choosing their crosstown rivals, the Clippers, according to a league source familiar with the situation.

The Clippers have said they’re interested in adding both Jamison and retaining Lamar Odom, according to a league source familiar with the situation. But the source added it’s currently unclear to what degree the details surrounding Odom’s alleged drug addiction will affect his future with the team.

Although he hasn’t held regrets playing with the Lakers for $1.4 million as opposed to the Charlotte Bobcats in what would’ve been a three-year, $10 million deal, Jamison hardly was interested in returning to the Lakers again.

The 15-year veteran tired of the endless in-fighting among the Lakers locker room. Partly stemmed from sitting out for six consecutive games, Jamison didn’t have the best relationship with Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni. Jamison had also skipped his initial exit meeting, though he attended at a later time.

Jamison averaged 9.4 points on 46.4 percent shooting and 4.7 rebounds in 76 appearances, a severe dropoff in his career-average 19.5 points per game. He also had offseason surgery to treat a torn ligament in his right wrist, an injury he nursed for the last month of the season.
