Jordan Farmar to receive ultrasound following Lakers’ trip

OKLAHOMA CITY — At a time when the Lakers could use some help at point guard, Jordan Farmar offered a promising sign surrounding his strained left hamstring.

“All the feeling is completely gone,” Farmar said. “I just have to do rehab and loosen up everything around it that could be pulling on the hamstring.”

Farmar won’t play during the Lakers’ four-game trip that includes stops in Oklahoma City (tonight), Charlotte (Saturday), Atlanta (Monday) and Memphis (Tuesday). But he said he’s scheduled to receive an ultrasound when the Lakers return to Los Angeles next Wednesday.

Farmar still traveled with the team so he could rehab with the team’s training staff, which he said has cardio, biking and stationary shooting drills. He has yet to run up and down a court. But he holds out optimism he can start doing that after the ultrasound.

Farmar has missed the past four games since injuring his left hamstring in the Lakers’ loss Dec. 1 to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Lakers originally estimated he’d sit out for a month, putting Farmar possibly two weeks away from returning. The Lakers have also injuries in points guards Steve Nash (back) and Blake (right elbow), who’s expected to miss at least the next six weeks.

“I don’t want to go backwards and not take negative steps,” said Farmar, who averaged a steady 9.2 points and 4.4 assists before his injury. “I’m being on the cautious side. Me not feeling good is a positive thing. But it’s a problem sometimes. You feel great out there and then it gets worse. Once I get it looked at again and they see it’s healed up completely, then we’ll start taking steps.”
