Utah Jazz spoof Kobe Bryant’s comeback video

Kobe Bryant’s return from a treat left Achilles tendon was treated as if he were the second coming salvaging something beyond the Lakers’ season.

The video starts with the title, “Seasons of Legend.” It ends with Bryant’s return date on Dec. 8, 2013. In between, the video shows wind, rain and snow battering Bryant’s No. 24 jersey. His uniform eventually rips in half. Sunlight then appears. A dramatic musical score accompanies the piece for an entire two minutes.

All the imagery captures the challenges Bryant encountered with the injury and his determination to overcome it. But in the eyes of the Utah Jazz, they apparently saw it as nothing more than a Hollywood act bent more on hype than substance.

That’s why the Jazz featured their own comeback tribute with Marvin Williams returning to the lineup after missing four games because of inflammation in his right foot. The video also featured Williams’ jersey surviving the elements of rain, snow and fire with a dramatic musical score albeit in only 38 seconds. More importantly, Williams’ return coincided with beating the Sacramento Kings, while the Lakers are 0-2 since Bryant’s return.

It turns out Bryant’s comeback video made no suggestion of the challenges ahead. That includes Bryant’s rustiness, teammates deferring to the Lakers’ star and the team’s point guards all dropping like flies.
