MIAMI — Pau Gasol sat on the bench during the Lakers’ practice on Wednesday, an open wound in the moderate strain in his left big toe causing the Lakers forward to take precautionary measures to ensure the injury doesn’t worsen.
“It’s been pulling my skin off,” Gasol said. “We have to let it close off as much as possible.”
Gasol said he still plans to suit up when the Lakers (16-26) visit the Miami Heat (30-12) Thursday at American Airlines Arena. Gasol has also nursed the injury for the past nine days, but has averaged 22 points on 53 percent shooting and 12.4 rebounds in the last five games.
“I’m not too concerned. It’s not too bad. I Just have to stay on it because every game I play, it pulls the skin,” Gasol said. “It’s not fun. But it’s all right. It’ll be fine.”
