Grandson of Lakers CEO Frank Mariani dies from car accident

Nicholas Mariani, the 24-year-old grandson and executive assistant of Lakers CEO Frank Mariani, died on Wednesday following what the Lakers called a “serious single-car accident” that happened on Sunday morning.

Frank Mariani was the longtime business partner of later Lakers owner Jerry Buss , both whom initially worked together in real estate in the 1950′s before eventually purchasing the Los Angeles Strings and San Diego Friars, respectively, of World Team Tennis.

The rest of Mariani’s family have other roles with the Lakers. Nicholas was the son of Associate Director of the Lakers Youth Foundation Roberta Mariani, nephew of Director of Corporate Partnerships Francis Mariani, and brother of Development Coordinator Anthony Mariani. Nicholas, who was also a Lakers employee, had two sisters.

The Lakers say funeral services are pending.
