NBA draft lottery: Lakers to get seventh pick of 2014 NBA Draft

NEW YORK — After experiencing its worst season in L.A. franchise history, the Lakers received the seventh pick for the 2014 NBA Draft on June 26.

The Lakers finished with a 27-55 record in the 2013-14 season, sixth-worst in the NBA. The Lakers appeared more likely to land sixth (43.99 percent) or seventh (30.44 percent) than first (6.3 percent), second (7.09 percent) or third (8.1 percent).

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak has said “it’s possible” the Lakers would trade the pick. But he also said he hopes to acquire a mid-round first round pick because of what many consider to be a star-studded class.

Such prospects include Kansas’ Joel Embiid and Andrew Wiggins, Duke’s Jabari Parker and Australia’s Dante Exum, but those players are unlikely to be available once the Lakers are on the clock to make their draft pick.
