Amid all the unpredictability surrounding the NBA Draft next week, a few things have become clear.

The Lakers have become intrigued enough with Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart, Arizona forward Aaron Gordon and Louisiana guard Elfrid Payton to host them for a second workout, which will take place Friday at the team’s practice facility in El Segundo. The Lakers’ workoput will also feature Michigan guard Nik Stauskas and P.J. Hairston, who played for the Texas Legends in the Development League after being suspended before his sophomore season at North Carolina. Stauskas originally planned to attend the Lakers’ first pre-draft workout on June 4, but cancelled for unknown reasons.

Hairston and Payton are projected to be selected late in the first round, but their attendance still adds value to the Lakers in case they trade their seventh overall pick for a couple mid-to-late first round picks. It is also possible that prospects, such as Smart, Gordon and Stauskas will be selected before the Lakers’ seventh selection.

A Lakers source said the team was left impressed with Smart’s tenacity in using his 6-foot-3, 227 pound frame as a physical presence both as a playmaker and defender. Meanwhile, Gordon has been lauded for his versatility in playing and defending in multiple positions at the forward spot.
