Lakers forward Wesley Johnson left Sunday’s game against the Indiana Pacers at Staples Center after straining his right hip flexor.

Johnson will receive an MRI in Los Angeles on Monday, which will both reveal the severity of his injury and how long the Lakers expect him to stay sidelined. But Johnson will at least sit out of Monday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center.

Johnson went scoreless on two field goal attempts and grabbed three rebounds in 12 minutes against Indiana. It is currently not clear what caused the injury, but Johnson left the game with 16 seconds left in the second quarter. Johnson did not return for the second half.

Johnson has averaged 9.7 points on 42.3 percent shooting in 29.8 minutes as the Lakers’ starting small forward. Nick Young could start in Johnson’s place against Portland. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant will also sit out in Portland’s game to rest on the second night of a back-to-back. It seems likely Wayne Ellington will start in Bryant’s place after assuming that spot during Bryant’s three-game absence nearly two weeks ago.
