The only thing that seems inevitable during this bizarre Lakers’ 2014-15 season.
The losses will mount, a 113-92 defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday at Staples Center dropping the Lakers’ record to 20-54. That marks one loss away from tying last season’s win total, which set the Lakers’ worst record in L.A. franchise history. More injuries will pile up. Lakers guard Wayne Ellington suffered a mild sprain in his right shoulder after colliding who he believed to be New Orlean’s Toney Douglas just before the game ended.
“It’s a little scary when you get hit there,” Ellington said as he sat by his locker nursing an ice bag over his right shoulder. “It’s very painful.”
The Lakers will evaluate Ellington during Thursday’s practice, an injury that could sideline him for Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center. Ellington, who posted 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting in 28 minutes off the bench, only missed six other games this season that had nothing to do with injuries. The Lakers granted him a leave of absence after his father was murdered in his hometown of Philadelphia on Nov. 9, 2014.
“They said it’s going to get worse before it gets better,” said Ellington who has averaged 10 points on a 41.2 percent clip this season. “But I’ll be all right.”
