The founders of We Love Long Beach are raising funds to help the family of Kaylee Alvarez, a 1-year-old girl who was killed the night of Oct. 11 when she was dragged by an alleged drunk driver for more than a mile.
Scott Jones, who founded the nonprofit We Love Long Beach with his sister Robin, said he hoped that the Internet community would pull together to help Kaylee's family, which is struggling with the cost of her funeral and with medical bills related to the injuries her 2-year-old brother Oscar suffered in the crash.

The two children were ripped from their parents' grasp on a Friday night as the family tried to cross 10th Street at Redondo Avenue in a crosswalk at about 8:30 p.m.
Multiple witnesses said Neely Lejon Dinkins was driving a Dodge Durango when he allegedly hit the small plastic wagon Kaylee and Oscar were riding in and that the wagon and the children became wedged in the wheel well of the SUV.
The driver fled with the Kaylee's and Oscar's parents, and many other witnesses, screaming in horror for him to stop. Dinkins allegedly stopped a short way down the street for a brief moment, when the 2-year-old fell out of the wheel well and was pulled to safety by people standing nearby.
The driver then fled again with Kaylee and the wagon still jammed in the SUV's wheel well despite the pleas of witnesses.
Witnesses also said the driver of the SUV exclaimed that he might have hit a baby after he drove to his girlfriend's home on Wilton Street, just off Redondo, and parked the vehicle.
Police at the scene found the dead girl and part of the wagon still lodged under the SUV when they arrived.
Investigators said Dinkins did not take a direct route to the home, and dragged the infant and the wagon for 1.3 miles before he stopped. His blood alcohol level tested .20, more than twice the legal limit, officers said.
Dinkins was arrested in the area of his girlfriend's home, where she lives with their children, he was booked on a charge of driving under the influence, felony hit and run, manslaughter and driving on a suspended license.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office filed multiple felony counts against the accused killer including second degree murder. The murder filing was based on witnesses statements about the incident and the driver's criminal past, which includes a number of runs-in with the law related to drugs and probation orders to abstain from drugs and alcohol, authorities said.

NO WAY HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVING. POOR LITTLE BABIES SUFFERING AS THEY WERE BEEN DRAGGED. SUCH A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE. PEOPLE HAVE TO GROW UP AND BE RESPONSIBLE HUMAN BEINGS. READING ALL THE INFORMATION BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES AND EVEN THOUGH I DON'T KNOW THE MAN HE MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH WITH HATE FOR HIM!

So, nobody said,
Through findabiblequotetosuiteyoureveryjustification.com, another religion-peddler hath said, "Eye for Eye..." Therefore, by your limited-reasoning skills, "Let the murderer go free." Heck, why stop there? Give him a Reality TV show and record deal. Just because he was driving hit'n'run, 2xtimes over the legal limit, on a suspended license, and don't forget, he was reminded in oh so many ways in the past to get his act together, we should not judge him (because he is sorry now). IS THAT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING BECAUSE IF SO YOU ARE REALLY really naive.
BULLSHIT!!!! Did u miss the part where he was running into the house, yelling to the neighbor, " I just ran over a baby?" And that was after the fact that he purposely drobve through back streets to allude people and cops? His blood alcohol was very well over 2 times the legal limit!!!Did you miss the part of the arraignment that said he was angry for being arrested for the charge? No remorse what so ever for the family he destroyed? Not to stereotype, but r u black? U for sure must be!!!! and my comment has been 2 everyone else, I am a very strong white woman, that works in the heart of the ghetto, anaheim and pine. most of my homeless black people will tell u, I am a crszy white woman, trapped in a black body!!! EVery negative comment I have read is that its bcuz hes black!!! bullshit!!! This is about a baby, and her family, and brother recovering in the hospital, and it was horrific, no matter what color he was! The fact thast all of u, and yes now I am stereotyping, is using this as a race card, is DISGRACEFUL, and it it is no wonder u have always been treated such as u have been. And in the future hpoe u will continue 2 b. Bcuz as of now,u have earned ur disgusting reputatiom.Agsin, do not get me wrong, my very best frind and children, and very loving ex boyfriend r black, but they would NEVER EVER use this horrible tragedy, as the system trying to make an example of your children in such a horrific way, as this!!! Do u have small chidren?SWo u can always wonder if this happened 2 them, how would u feel then????
I
My council office will be happy to help the family apply for funds from the State Board of Control. The funds will cover funeral expenses ($7500) and other expenses that resulted from this horrendous crime. Claim forms and information can be found at: http://www.vcgcb.ca.gov/publications/AppsandClaimForms.aspx

Thanks for the heads up on the error. I looked up the bio info yesterday and STILL got it wrong. Too much going on lately I suppose. Sorry about that. It's fixed. Thanks again!
I was looking for something else when I ran across these comments. The one that really caught my eyes was the one that said " he really did not know of the other baby under the suv " To that I must say, If he had stopped, and stayed stopped, then he would have known there was another baby under his wheel well. It is called taking responsibility for your actions.
As far as Judgement goes. yes God will judge him, but God also said to obey the laws of the land, which he broke many times prior to and the night of this unfortunate event. So he will be judged by a jury of his peers, regardless of the judgement of the community. Because of his actions, a Mother and Father grieve for the baby that was torn from their life, a little boy asks where is my little sister, and his children will not have their Father unless they spend an hour or two visiting him in prison, All because he chose to drink, or use drugs, and drive.
God Bless all who have suffered a loss due to this Man's wrong decision.
