Seven adults and two children were transported to local trauma centers for critical to moderate injuries after a vehicle collision on the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway Thursday night.

Long Beach Fire and paramedic crews were dispatched to the scene around 7 p.m. and discovered four adults had been thrown from one medium-sized overturned SUV that carried a total of nine passengers.  Five others, including two children who appeared to be 4 to 5 -years-old, were also riding in that vehicle and were treated for injuries.

The two adult occupants of the larger SUV involved in the collision were uninjured, authorities said in a press release.

It is unknown if any of the passengers were wearing seat belts.  The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
